A short stroll to help the Sunday dinner go down !

Roughay Lane

This is a very pleasant 2 1/2 to 3 mile stroll, ideal for walking off that Sunday lunch. (Fishers Pond, Queens Head, Ship Inn and Marwell Resort Hotel all a short drive away)
Take the B3354 Winchester Rd from Fair Oak towards Colden Common, at the Queens Head traffic lights turn right onto the B2177 Portsmouth Rd. Take the third lane on the left (No through road) which shortly after entering bends to your left, park considerately being careful not to block field gates or drives.

Continue on foot up the lane until you are level with the entrance to Roughay farm, follow the path on your left which skirts the fenced woodland ,(Sladford's Copse), to your right, which at the time of my walk on a beautiful sunny April day was busy with the sound of pheasants. You soon pass a barn on your left and the track starts to bend right, at this point follow the footpath which veers off through the middle of the field, (rapeseed on my walk), towards the distant buildings. Cross the style and carry on along the fenced path, passing between Hurst Farm and Marwell House to emerge onto a lane.

Turn right onto the lane and after a short distance, turn right again onto another lane signpost Baybridge. After half a mile or so ascend the wide gravel right of way on your right, and follow this track beneath the arched trees, through the fields and Leybushes Copse, to eventually join another track, (Red Lane) which you turn right onto, this leads you straight back past Roughay Farm to where you left your car.

Nice easy walk
